How to shape your brand's tone on social media
13 September 2026 · 2 min
Brand tone is a set of decisions about how a company speaks in posts, comments and private messages. “Be friendly” is not enough: writers also need to know how to explain prices, respond to complaints and describe a product. A short editorial guide makes these choices consistent when several people contribute to the same account.
Separate audiences and situations
Collect actual customer questions about service scope, price, selection criteria, delivery or appointments. Then identify different situations. An introductory post and a reply to an unhappy customer should not carry the same emotional energy. For Azerbaijani and Russian audiences, translate the intended meaning rather than copying sentence structure. Ask a fluent speaker to check forms of address and terminology.
Turn three qualities into usable rules
- Clear: explain an unfamiliar term when it first appears.
- Respectful: avoid blaming customers, sarcasm and pressure.
- Specific: replace “the best” with a verifiable feature or actual condition.
Give each quality a preferred and an unsuitable example. Agree on forms of address, brand spelling, price presentation and emoji use. These decisions support creativity rather than replace it. Keep the guide short enough to consult while writing, and include examples from posts as well as customer service conversations.
Compare Azerbaijani and Russian examples
The following are hypothetical editing examples, not promises about a particular business:
- AZ, vague: “Ən sərfəli təklif yalnız bizdə!” More specific: “Paketə daxil olan işləri və qiyməti cədvəldə müqayisə edin.”
- RU, vague: “Лучшее решение для каждого!” More specific: “Сравните состав пакетов и выберите подходящий объём работ.”
- Complaint reply: replace “You misunderstood” with “Let’s clarify which condition was unclear.”
The revised versions explain an action instead of making a bigger claim. In a real post, the referenced comparison table must exist and show current information. Do not ask customers to disclose personal details in public comments; use a suitable private channel for those details.
Review before publishing
Read the text aloud. Does it sound natural, answer the question and avoid unsupported superiority claims? Check captions, narration and the opening of videos too. TikTok’s creative guidance can help review presentation. Meta’s recommendation guidance provides platform context, but it does not define your company’s voice. Add examples as real questions emerge and keep the same editorial rules across channels.
